Kate was interviewed by the Calgary Herald during Teacher’s Convention and was asked to comment on museum cuts and their impact on field trips:

“Affordability for schools is a concern, and many museums and attractions will try turning to grants to help cover operating expenses before raising entrance rates, said Kate Schutz, president of the Society of Educational Resource Groups.

Her organization represents several Calgary-area museums and attractions such as the Telus World of Science, Fort Calgary, Cantos Music Foundation and Glenbow Museum.

While these non-profits may aim to keep entrance fees stable this year, some may have to reconsider to make ends meet in the future.

“Teachers have a set field trip budget, and it becomes more difficult and harder choices have to be made. Maybe there are less field trip opportunities for them,” said Schutz.”
