We offer three youth volunteer programs which support the Alberta Learning curriculum and provide students with an opportunity to apply their studies to situations outside the classroom.  Our programs are supported by CBE Partnerships and are recommended by the Curriculum Specialist for Health and Life Skills and Career and Life Management.

Kids For Animals Club (Ages 8-15)

Our most popular program for youth who LOVE animals! The Kids for Animals Club (KFAC) gives participants a chance to learn about different types of animals, interact with our shelter animals, create crafts, complete fun activities and make new friends!  For more information or to enroll please see the “Kids for Animals Club” section of our website.

Humane Helpers (ages 12 -15)

Looking to volunteer? The Humane Helpers Program might be for you! Youth aged 12-15 are able to come in and volunteer with the animals along with a parent or adult (aged 18 or older) for this 10 week program. The average shift is approximately 2 hours per week for a total of 20 volunteer hours. Reference letters for volunteer credit is available and shifts are flexible making this program a great option for extra volunteer experience or school volunteer hour requirements. Please see the Humane Helpers tab on our website for more details. Orientations are held approximately once per month.

Youth Ambassador Program (Age 13-17)

Leadership and volunteerism are the spirit of this program. Youth Ambassadors focus on making our world a more compassionate place through discussion and actions. Our Youth Ambassadors perform volunteer duties around the shelter, discuss animal welfare issues and plan, organize and run their own fundraiser and then direct those funds based on department bids. For more information please contact our Humane Education department at educator@calgaryhumane.ca.  *Spaces available for the winter session only*
