On January 15, 2013, Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame (CSHoF) opened a brand new travelling exhibition entitled The Perfect Match: Sport vs. Science. The exhibit is travelling to CSHoF from the Sherbrooke Museum of Nature and Science and focuses on improvements in sports performance through science and technology. This engaging and hands-on exhibition, tied to many facets of the Alberta curriculum, will be available to Calgary and area school groups to take part in through May 24, 2013.
Exhibition Description from the Sherbrooke Museum of Nature and Science:
The exhibit is a participative exhibition that explains how science and technology have contributed to improve sports performances. Measuring devices are now part of training. In the exhibition, visitors will measure their strength, their speed and their heart rate. They will be filmed while being a cheerleader or a baseball pitcher and thus notice the contribution of video in sports. They will meet with their physical trainer, their coach, their kinesiologist, their psychologist and their nutritionist before the competition. They will have to follow their advices and take up their challenges. Beware, an anti-doping control agent has an eye on them! Will they climb up the podium? The exhibition puts forward athletes from our country and many sports equipments, modern and old.
Schools can book a directed school program tied to the Perfect Match exhibition or they can visit CSHoF for a self-guided exploration of the exhibit and tour of the museum. Programs and visits are available for Kindergarten to Grade 12 students, Tuesday to Fridays (from 10:00am-12:00pm or 1:00-3:00pm). Programs are just $5.00/Student + GST.
CSHoF also offers five additional education programs, which are connected to the Alberta Curriculum and are CBE certified. These programs, ranging from fine arts to science, are available for students in Kindergarten to Grade 12: Learning Through Sport Artefacts, Spectacular Sports Moments, Art of Motion, Sport Technology and Shaping Our Identity. The same availability and costs apply to these programs.
