Water for Life

The Water for Life workshop is a fun and interactive activity where students work in groups to explore the properties of water.

The students build a model of a community by assembling different types of land-cover and landforms, plus various components that represent living and non-living things. After the students brainstorm the sources of water on the planet, they add water to their models, see the interaction of water with different land-cover materials and determine what needs water to survive.

The groups explore water quantity and quality issues by pointing out areas where water could be wasted or polluted in their model. After seeing firsthand the impacts of water pollution, the students brainstorm how they can help protect and conserve water.
